The National Math Bee is also this weekend (5/1/09 and 5/2/09)

The National Math Bee Championship is scheduled for this Friday and Saturday (May 1st and 2nd) at the McWane Science Center.  The National Math Bee is the first of its kind to offer this unique online learning experience to grades one through six, and in the research study it was shown without exception, that every student group who used the software demonstrated a significant increase in their math skills.

Unplugged StaffTechMixer Unplugged (November 13, 2008)

TechMixer Unplugged is set for November 13, 2008, at the Innovation Depot.  “Unplugged” is a casual event that brings together Birmingham’s technology crowd to meet fellow professionals, network, and share ideas.  Enjoy live music, finger foods, and a cash bar while you meet and mingle with other tech-minded professionals in a fun and laid-back environment.   Full Details.

Volunteers Needed for XO Laptop Program

Birmingham’s deployment of XO Laptops is about to enter a new phase of distribution for thousands of elementary school students.  After a successful launch of the 1,000 Unit Pilot Program at Glen Iris Elementary, plans are being made for deploying the remaining 14,000 units.

The Mayor’s Office, School Board, and Consultants are putting together an assembly line to ready the remaining laptops. Steps include unboxing, battery installation, software imaging, and re-packing for distribution.

Volunteers are needed to help.  Beginning October 9th, daily sessions of two 4 hour shifts will go to work imaging the laptops.  Morning shifts are 8:00 a.m. to noon followed by the afternoon shift of 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  To volunteer please call Neil Segars at 205-427-8155 (cell), or email at nsegars@msn.com.
